More funding flows for Beenleigh Redland Bay Road
More upgrades are on the cards for Beenleigh Redland Bay Road with the Palaszczuk Government today
announcing funding to plan and widen one of its busiest sections.
Building on $19 million in safety upgrades locked in as part of a $1 billion roads stimulus package plus the
$4 million Kruger Road intersection upgrade, local MPs Melissa McMahon and Mick de Brenni made the
announcement alongside Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey.
“One of the biggest chokepoints on Beenleigh-Redland Bay Road is the two lanes between California Creek
Road and Mount Cotton Road,” Ms McMahon said.“I’m proud to announce $1.5 million has now been locked in to get the necessary planning done and the
road in a position so it can be four-laned.
Planning will happen while upgrades get underway this including:
• Improved line marking and signs, removing roadside hazards, pedestrian paths and highfriction
surface treatments between California Creek Road and Mount Cotton Road, Cornubia;
• Improved line marking and signs, removing roadside hazards, pedestrian paths and safety
barriers between Mount Cotton Road and Serpentine Creek, Carbrook; and
• Dedicated right turn lanes to:
o Calvary Christian College
o The Wirunya Aged Care and Retirement facilities
o Ferry Road
o Aquatic Gardens Caravan Park
o Rocky Passage Road
“Our community alongside all Queenslanders have stepped up in managing the health impacts of COVID-
19. And because of their work, the Palaszczuk Government is able to get on with the road upgrades and
jobs our community is calling for.”
Member for Springwood Mick de Brenni said plans for the duplication would also include a new two-lane
bridge over California Creek plus upgrades to pedestrian and bike riding paths and facilities.
“Only the Palaszczuk Government backs better roads and transport to get you and your family home
sooner and safer,” Mr de Brenni said.
“It was Labor that fixed the M1 Gateway merge, we’re now delivering the M1 upgrade through Logan and
we’re getting on with the next generation of M1 upgrades to Daisy Hill and Beenleigh Redland Bay Road
duplication.
“We saw what happened the last time the LNP were in government, they cut $1.6 billion from our roads
and didn’t spend a single new dollar on the M1, setting our community back years.
“Fixing Beenleigh Redland Bay Rd is great news, especially for residents of Mount Cotton and Sheldon
because it will get them home sooner and safer.”
