Big upgrade for Beenleigh Park n Ride
The Beenleigh station Park n Ride is set for a major upgrade under a $30 million,
jointly-funded plan announced by the Palaszczuk Government as part of
Queensland’s plan for economic recovery.
Member for Macalister Melissa McMahon said an additional 400 parking spaces
would be built near the station for commuters.
“The park n ride in Beenleigh’s CBD is often at capacity either side of the rail line,
so this project will provide some relief for commuters who drive here and catch the
train,” Ms McMahon said.
“We’re delivering more train services than ever before, we’re building the $5.4
billion Cross River Rail and today we’ve matched the Federal Government’s $15
million to get the ball rolling on this upgrade.
The funding will see a potential site at Intercity Circuit transformed into a multistorey
car park.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said Queenslanders have stepped
up in helping to manage the health response to COVID-19, and because of that,
the Palaszczuk Government is able to get on with Queensland’s plan for economic
recovery, which includes creating jobs and delivering better public transport.
“Melissa McMahon has been a huge advocate for her community, fighting for
better station access and more jobs, and we’ve listened,” Mr Bailey said.
“We’ve done the feasibility study, we’ve started detailed planning and today’s
funding announcement means that once that detailed planning is done, we can get
shovels in the ground.”
