The Logan and Albert Rivers are part of the Moreton Bay Marine Park, a region of vital ecological, economic, and social importance. They serve as critical nursery grounds for numerous fish species, including the iconic Barramundi and King Threadfin Salmon.
As such, protections against commercial gillnetting should be enforced by the Queensland Government to protect the Barramundi and King Threadfin Salmon stock, other non-targeted species, and the economic prosperity of the region that stems from recreational fishing and tourism opportunities.
Gillnetting in the Logan and Albert River occurs under the protection of an N15 Symbol in Queensland Fisheries Area 5 and allows for the catch of Barramundi and King Threadfin Salmon.
This petition calls for the permanent closure of all commercial gill netting (Queensland Fisheries Area 5, Symbol N15) in:
• The Albert River
• The Logan River
